China has a population of 1,313,973,713 (July 2006 est.) where 31.03 million traveled abroad in 2005, spending around 25 billion USD as tourism expenditures. By the year 2020, the UNWTO expects that China will become one of the world’s major outbound tourism markets. It is forecasted that China will generate 100 million tourists (6.2% of the world total) globally by 2020, ranking it the world’s fourth largest generating country after Germany, Japan and the United States. These projections assume that the foundations of the Chinese economy are fundamentally strong, with positive medium- to long-term growth potential.
