Entries flood in for Amman 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championship

Jordan is putting the final touches for hosting the 37th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, which will be held on March 28th.

 

The much anticipated biggest winter athletic outdoor event has drawn entries by some of the world’s best runners from six continents.

 

Favorites Ethiopia and Kenya have included world record breakers and Olympic medalists in their teams, while the USA and UK have signaled their intent to be a threat with six runners in each of the four race categories. There is a strong entry from Europe with Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Holland among the teams travelling to Jordan along with the likes of China, Kazakhstan, India and Macau coming from Asia with top runners.

 

From the Arab World, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen are taking part in the race.

 

HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee said “Jordan is one of the safest and most secure destinations in the world for staging major events and the diversity of those countries that have confirmed their attendance underlines the sporting world’s confidence in us as a host nation.”

 

The Amman 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships will witness the crowning of four world champions in the Junior Men, Junior Women, Senior Men and Senior Women categories.
