Business meetings, investment forums, and bilateral agreements marked the first royal visit by His majesty King Abdullah II to Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.

The King’s tour was highlighted by a series of talks and activities focused on bilateral economic cooperation and discussion of global and regional issues.

In Brazil, the King addressed the opening session of the Jordan Investment Forum in Sao Paulo and commended the economic and cultural role of the Arab community in Brazil.

Speaking to the audience, including 500 Brazilian businessmen, The King hailed the role of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in organizing the forum in cooperation with the Jordan Investment Board, and voiced hope that the forum will help explore further investment opportunities and create more jobs.

Jordan and Brazil signed 11 deals to enhance economic, cultural and political cooperation between the two countries.

A Free Trade Agreement was the focus of the King’s talks in Argentina, where His Majesty highlighted the great opportunity for increased trade exchanges and investment cooperation in industries like mining, pharmaceuticals and food production, and urged better ties between Jordan’s private and public sector institutions and their Latin American counterparts.

His Majesty had earlier concluded a visit to Chile with a similar call for partnership. A joint Jordanian-Chilean communiqué voiced determination to expand political dialogue and bilateral ties in the fields of trade, economy, investments, tourism, culture and science, among others.

Just like in Brazil and Argentina, the Jordan Investment Forum was held in Chile. King Abdullah told Chilean businessmen that “Jordan and Chile are separated by seven time zones and more than 13,000 kilometers - but we are near neighbors, when it comes to our global economic approach.”

“Jordan and MERCOSUR have a cooperation agreement in place that, we hope, will lead to a free trade agreement. We are grateful that Chile has supported this important step,” His Majesty added.
