For the first time in Jordan Launching of an electronic tourist guide –easyguide-
It is now possible for tourists visiting the Kingdom of Jordan to use the newly launched electronic tourist guide, known as, “easyguide”.
easyguide is a service provided by easyinfo, a Jordanian company working to provide electronic tourist assistance service to different sites in Jordan like Petra, Jerash, Madaba and other locations of tourist interest in Jordan.
easyguide is an electronic tour guide which complements existing tourist services, but is unique in that it caters specifically to individual interests.
easyguide has become available for Petra, just in time for Petra officially becoming one of the Seven World Wonders. This audio guide is offered in four languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish.
The service begins by renting a hand held device, available at select hotels. easyguide for Petra offers 32 commentaries describing the most prominent sites in the Rock City. The commentaries vary from one to four minutes in length and total seventy minutes in their entirety.
The audio-guide for Petra allows an individual the opportunity to walk at his or her own pace unrestricted by the dynamics of group tours.
Native speaking narrators were chosen for the different language commentaries offered, making the carefully collected, historic information easy to understand.
It should be pointed out that there is an urgent need for this service, now that Petra will see an increase in the number of visitors due to its newly acquired standing as a world wonder. easyguide aims to complement the existing touristic services provided in Petra while helping to fill the service gaps.
Electronic tour guides are very popular in many parts of the modern world. Their introduction to Jordan is fitting considering that the kingdom has become one of the leaders in the IT industry of the Middle East.
According to recent statistics, 39% of travelers world wide are people traveling individually and not in a group setting. Accordingly those individual needs should be met.
easyinfo has launched a related service this month which allows the curious citizen or traveler to utilize their mobile phones as audio tour guides during their trip to Petra. A person can use his/her phone and dial 090099303 to access information on relative sites in Petra. This service is complemented by a map which will guide the tourist through the different sites in Petra. The map will be distributed for free in local newspapers, magazines and hotels. A Tourist may also directly access a list of site numbers, by following instructions given on the phone, without a map being necessary.
Hala Zawati, the company’s GM said that change is never easy. Beginnings are intrinsically hard, and so the new service needs the backing of everyone in the tourism industry. Be it the government, hotels, travel agents or mobile service providers, everyone’s support will be helpful in ensuring the success of easyguide. The success of a modern tourist assistance device will in turn usher in a new level of service, so that the Kingdom of Jordan will be matching and hopefully surpassing the services already provided in most developed countries around the world. |
