Jordanian, Swiss Museums Sign Cooperation Agreement
Jordanian and Swiss museums signed a memorandum of understanding for enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise. Swiss Ambassador to Jordan Paul Widmer announced a project for restructuring Petra’s main entrance at a cost of JD1.5 million.
The announcement coincides with a visit of a delegation from the Swiss Bubikon Museum, which presented two models of medieval assault machines to the Karak Museum.
The museum also offered to train one of Petra’s museum restorers at a Swiss archaeological museum. This new addition at Petra is expected to greatly enhance the visitor’s experience to the ancient city. It is noted that Switzerland has always played an important role in the restoration and the preservation of Petra. Notably, it was the Swiss explorer Burckhardt who rediscovered Petra to the west in 1813. |
