The 1 million vote campaign launched by the Greater Amman Municipality last April to support Petra has collected 1.5 million votes. Amman Mayor Eng. Omar Al Maani said that this number is a sign of the citizens’ national responsibility, calling public and private institutes to launch similar campaigns to support Petra. He added that the municipality has worked as one team to help achieve this national project.

The mayor also added that the municipality seeks to involve the local community in this campaign and confirmed that naming Petra as one of the New Seven Wonders will reflect positively on the tourism industry, which in turn will have a positive impact on the local economy.

The project was carried out by voting through mobile phones, where 130 phones were distributed to 36 locations to establish a voting center, and computers were also provided to vote online.
