Issue No. 6 - March 2007 |
 |
The Jordan Tourism Board is very happy to announce the first anniversary of the Petra survey that officially began in January 2006. The Petra survey is a new tool introduced by the JTB to gather and analyze vital information about the Petra visitor under the assumption that the pure tourist to Jordan is the one who will visit the Rose City. In conjunction with the tour guides, tour operators and the Petra Visitor’s Center, each visitor to Petra is invited to fill out a short form. Answers to the questions are in a multiple choice format and are available in many languages.
During the twelve months of 2006, and on a monthly basis, the JTB managed to gather a wealth of information on Petra visitors such as the nationality, age group, gender, first time visitor or repeat visitor, part of a group or FTI and more. The information gathered, and after analyses, is priceless in terms of the indicators they provide for better target marketing as well as accuracy of the information. Deviation is considered to be at around only ± 6%. At the end of each month, the completed surveys that stand at around 30,000 are entered as data into a specially designed software that allows for easy reporting. Once completed the reports are made available to JTB members on the B2B site and shared with the overseas representation offices.
Now that a full year has been completed, JTB has been able to accurately compare and analyze Petra visitors for January 2006 and 2007. Results have been very positive in some of the markets that showed a drop last year. As an example, visitors from Germany witnessed a 115% increase, Russia 116%, France 29%, Canada 30% and so forth. The JTB is eagerly awaiting the results of the Petra survey for the following months to be able to craft the course for the second half of the year accordingly.s.
Wishing you all a wonderful spring season,

Mazen Homoud
Managing Director.
