taysir batniji :-
Taysir Batniji, an artist with
pluridisciplinary interests (painting,
installation, photography, performance,
video art), was born in Gaza, Palestine,
in 1966. He currently lives in Paris
(France). He studied fine arts at the
An-Najah National University in Nablus
(Palestine), before continuing his
studies in France, at the ةcole
Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Bourges
(1995-1997), the Université Paris 8,
Saint-Denis (2000), and at the ةcole
Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Marseille
(2002-2003). Batjini also participated
to many art residencies (6 months at
“Schloss Solitude”, Stuttgart, Germany,
2001-2002; 1 month at “Joal-Fadiouth”,
Senegal, 2003) and worked at the “Cité
Internationale des Arts” (Paris) in 2003
and 2004. Taysir Batniji has staged
exhibitions at various venues in Europe
and beyond (Havana Biennal, 2003; Venice
Biennale, 2003; etc.). He also held a
solo presentation at the Centre Culturel
Français in Gaza (Palestine) in 2004.
Taysir Batniji produces images that
question the media clichés our TV
screens are full of. In a poetico
documentary style, he enables the
juxtaposition of intimacy and the news.
The video broadcasted during the
festival: Gaza – journal in time # 2
(duration 14’05’’, 2007).
